About News Feeds

A news feed is mechanism whereby a content provider (newspapers, magazines, TV stations, websites, etc.) can pass articles to a news aggregator. To aggregate means to combine or gather into a whole. The aggregator gathers news items from many sources and presents them to you in one place and easy to use form.

There are a number of news aggregator programs from which you can choose if you want to use a program that resides on your computer. Some are free and some are not. There are also a number of news aggregator web sites on which you may open an account. Go to RSS Compendium for an extensive list of programs and web based services.

Or you can just jump in and use one of the following to get your feet wet. At your leisure you can explore other programs and services and switch if you find one you like better.

Most of our members provide news feeds to which you can subscribe. You can subscribe to all of our member’s news feeds by right clicking: MBI-members.opml as of Jun 24, 2008. Select "Save target as" and save it to your computer. Then import it into your news aggregator program. Most aggregator programs have an import feature; usually in the File Menu. If you later decide you no longer want to read all of our member’s blogs, you simply delete the undesired subscriptions from your aggregator.

If you want more information about the mechanism that allows all this to happen, read the Wikipedia article RSS.
