In January 2007 nominations were opened to the public and MBI members. After nominations closed, MBI members selected five finalists in each category.

Voting was opened to the public and members during the month of February. Public and MBI member votes were recorded separately.

After voting closed, the public and member votes were tallied. For each category the percentage of votes each nominee received was calculated. The percentages for public votes and member votes were then added together giving a nomrmalized percentage for each nominee. The nominee with the highest percentage of votes in each category is the winner. An abbreviated example:

Public vote:
Nominee 1: 12% of the vote
Nominee 2: 64% of the vote
Nominee 3: 24% of the vote

Member vote:
Nominee 1: 62%
Nominee 2: 22%
Nominee 3: 16%

The percentages are combined:
Nominee 1: 12% + 62% = 74
Nominee 2: 64% + 22% = 86
Nominee 3: 24% + 16% = 40

Nominee number 2 is the winner.
